The Ravens have signed running back, Derrick Henry to a two-year, $16 million deal with $9 million guaranteed and an additional $4 million in incentives. The 30-year-old rushed for 1,167 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2023 with the Titans and is a 4-time Pro-Bowler. This past season also marked the 5th year (out of 8) that he’s surpassed the 1,000-yard mark.
Derrick Henry Fills a Much-Needed Role
The Ravens have been plagued with injuries for several years at the running back position. JK Dobbins has suffered two recent season-ending injuries in back-to-back seasons, the most recent being at the start of the 2023 season, tearing his Achilles tendon. He and running back, Gus Edwards have both been on and off the injury report over the years, but Edwards managed to carry the team, injury-free this last season.
The Ravens, however, are ready to move on from the veteran Edwards and have traded him to the Chargers. In his place, they’ve brought on Henry, who is also a veteran in the league but brings a formidable record of performance with him. Adam Schefter reported that since 2018, Derrick Henry has rushed for 8,268 yards, the most in the league. Since 2018, Lamar Jackson has rushed 5,258 yards, the most by a quarterback. And now, they’re on the same team.
The trade I’m super bummed about is the one involving Patrick Queen. Not only are we losing an elite linebacker, we’re losing an elite line backer to a division rival! I can’t believe we’re sending our beloved PQ to the Steelers. Excuse me while I go cry in a corner somewhere.
