The 2024 NFL draft is over. Rookies are added to rosters and teams are starting to prepare for the 2024 season. Let’s look at the Titans draft haul and how they fit into the Titans plans in 2024:
Round 1, Pick 7: JC Latham, OT, Alabama
Everybody thought that this pick would be an offensive tackle and the Titans delivered. The offensive line is the weakest position group on the team and a competent line is needed if the Titans want to evaluate Will Levis this season. With Joe Alt off the board, the Titans selected JC Latham. With lack of talent all across the line, Latham should be on the field straight away.
Round 2, Pick 38: T’Vondre Sweat, DL, Texas
The Titans took a massive risk selecting Sweat at the top of the second round. Following a DUI charge three weeks before the draft, many draft analysts thought Sweat would drop down draft boards. The Titans clearly felt comfortable enough with the motivation and character issues to take a chance. Sweat really needs to knuckle down for this pick to pay off.
Round 4, Pick 106, Cedric Gray, LB, North Carolina
The Titans had a need at linebacker after losing Azeez Al-Shaair in free agency. They address this here with the selection of Gray. He will compete for a starting spot in 2024.
Round 5, Pick 146, Jarvis Brownlee Jr, CB, Louisville
Brownlee joins Chidobe Awuzie and L’Jarius Sneed in the cornerback room adding much needed depth at this position.
Round 6, Pick 182, Jha’Quan Jackson, WR, Tulane
A smaller wide receiver who played the majority of the time out of the slot in college. With Calvin Ridley and DeAndre Hopkins on the perimeter, Jackson will be battling Treylon Burks and Kyle Philips for the slot role. Burks and Philips haven’t wowed in their time in the league this far. There is a chance for Jackson to win that role at some point.
Round 7, Pick 242, James Williams, S, Miami
Williams was primarily a box safety in college but he has the skills to play linebacker as showcased at the senior bowl. Iff Williams can stick on the roster, he is a versatile piece that could be used by defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson and on special teams.
Round 7, Pick 252, Jayden Harrell, EDGE, Michigan
A depth piece for the defensive line. He will compete for the chance to be in the edge rotation.
It is clear the Titans tried to fill their roster holes with their selections in the 2024 NFL draft. Latham is likely to be a serviceable, long term starter on the right side of the offensive line. The Titans took a huge risk with Sweat in the second round. They need to hope that it pays off.
Fantasy implications:
The Titans didn’t select any players with immediate fantasy impact. However, the addition of JC Latham will help keep Will Levis upright so he can deliver the ball the Ridley and Hopkins. Jha’Quan Jackson shouldn’t be on any fantasy radars at this time but keep an eye on the competition for slot snaps. If it looks like Jackson is going to win that role, he may be someone to add on to benches in deeper leagues.
