Tennessee Titans sign Tyler Boyd

The Tennessee Titans sign Tyler Boyd to join their wide receiver room. Boyd previously played for the Cincinnati Bengals and reunites with Brian Callahan who was the OC in Cincinnati from 2019 to 2023. Along with Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, Boyd was part of the trio of wide receivers that helped get the Bengals to Super Bowl LVI. Boyd has played his entire career in the slot and has been a reliable receiver. However, he’s now 29 years old and last season was his worst statistically since the arrival of Joe Burrow and that high powered offence.

Prior to Boyd’s signing, it was thought that Treylon Burks and Kyle Philips would be competing for the slot role. The Boyd signing indicates that the Titans are not comfortable entering this season with this duo as their only options. This is a damning indictment of Treylon Burks, a first round selection in 2022. Any hope that fantasy managers have of Burks becoming a reliable starting receiver is rapidly dwindling.

Whichever receiver wins the slot role for the Titans this offseason, they are unlikely to be fantasy relevant. With two high end wide receivers on the outside and two running backs with pass catching skills, targets are likely to be funneled in those directions. The signing of Boyd is unlikely to move the needle for fantasy but it solidifes the slot position for the Titans and adds further support for Will Levis in a critical year for his career and development.
