Dak Prescott agrees to a new contract as Cowboys take down Browns in Season Opener
They did the damn thing. After months of speculation and all the attention Jerry Jones could ever hope for, the Dallas Cowboys and Dak Prescott agreed to terms that would make him the highest paid player in NFL history. The 4 year-$240 million contract includes $231 guaranteed and an $80 million signing bonus.
Prescott showed us Sunday why he is worth that price tag. Week 1 games won’t tell us the entire story for the season, and there’s obviously room for improvement especially in the second half. Overall a big victory on a road against a team that boasts Defensive Player of the Year.
A Cohesive Group
The defense looks as potent as ever, with the off-season addition of defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer seemingly already paying off. Micah Parsons looks primed for another dominant season, and the debut of DeMarvion Overshown did not disappoint. Overshown was set to begin his rookie season last year but suffered a torn ACL in preseason.
Dallas will have work to do on offense as far as getting their wide receivers involved, especially with news that tight end Jake Ferguson will miss some time with a knee injury. Ceedee Lamb missed most of training camp and preseason waiting for his own contract, but it doesn’t look like that slowed him down. Brandin Cooks also brought his dependency to the game with a 21 yard touchdown in the first quarter.
One of the bigger surprises of the game was the run game, with the return of Ezekiel Elliott a big question mark going into the season. Elliott split work with Rico Dowdle but appeared to he the stronger back on 10 carries and a score. All in all a strong start to a new Dallas Cowboys season.
Next up for the Dallas Cowboys is the New Orleans Saints in their home opener at AT&T Stadium.
