Growing Pains

Week 1 for the Broncos is in the books and well.. What did you expect? From a fans standpoint it was decent. I wasn’t expecting to go blow out the Seahawks the first week with a new quarterback who’s never taken a snap in the NFL. Is there hope? Of course. What the Broncos organization has experienced the last 10 years has been bleak. 13 different starting quarterbacks, 5 different head coaches and an ownership change since the 2014-2015 season. There has been no accountablity besides firing the head coach they didnt set up to succeed at all. Out of these 13 quarterbacks only 3 of them were drafted in 10 years. Did the Broncos have opportunities to draft a quarterback more than this? The answer is yes most notably Josh Allen, at pick 5 of the 2018 draft. However you can’t even say he would have succeeded here with how terrible things were at the time for the Broncos.

However the Broncos new ownership is trying to right this wrong, remember this is only their second season as the owners. They bought a team that was barely bandaged together with a shiny new superbowl winning quarterback in Russell Wilson. Well that whole experiment is over and the Broncos will see Russell Wilson and the Steelers this Sunday, Wilson is questionable for Sunday against the Broncos. This is not a must win now, this is a time to let Nix figure things out, you cannot expect a quarterback that has played 1 game in the NFL to be great or even good already. So buckle up Broncos fans were going for another ride this season good or bad at least things are different and there’s hope in the future.

From a gambling standpoint I took the Broncos over 5.5 wins at +110 5 weeks before the start of the season, the odds dropped to -140 1week before the start of the season, now it is back to +110 today, still 5.5 wins. Lets not forget the Broncos won 5 of their first 7 games last season and ended with an 8-9 record. Last week the spread was 6.5 Broncos did cover that. this week the spread is 2.5 and I’m probably not touching the Broncos this week for my own mental health. Although it would be fun to get the outright win at +124, yes that’s me being a delusional fan.

For Fantasy Football I do not have many shares of many of Broncos players. I did take Ja’Vonte Williams in some drafts. The whole Sean Payton effect was alluring, however last week he was not utilized like I’d hoped for, he had 8 rush attempts for 23 yards, 2.88 yards per carry, and McLaughlin had 10 attemps for 27 yards, 69 total yards for the 3 running backs including Estime (IR). Bo Nix’s performance was not good either throwing for only 138 yardsand 2 interceptions. Nix did rush for 35 yards and had 1 rushing touchdown. The wide receivers combined for 122 yards and 0 touchdowns. Would I love to see this go a different direction this week? of course but I’m not telling you play any of these guys if you don’t have to.

There’s only one way to go and thats up, but it’s going to take time. Be patient Broncos Country.
